REPORT ON DIG MEETING HELD FRIDAY 25 FEBRUARY 2011

A good turn out at our first meeting for the year, in spite of some of our regulars being busy doing other things.  Welcome to new members present for the first time.

Thanks to several people, we managed to get the new data projector set up properly.  Trevor asked that we take note of how  photos looked using the new machine.   Definitely not good!  Very little depth to the photos.  However, it is quite possible that the settings on the laptop and the projector could be the problem.  This will be discussed with the Tech people to see if we can do something about it.

The meeting acknowledged and briefly discussed the disastrous earthquake in Christchurch and we moved on to happier topics.

There had not been much time allowed for uploading photographs to the Shutterfly website with the result that we had a smaller than usual number to look at.  We decided that we will continue the ‘favourite Summer break’ photos for the next month, so sort out your photos and upload them to the website.

    Essence of Summer

If you have forgotten how to go about sending your photos to the website, here are some simple instructions.

Sending photos to the Shutterfly website

A simple method to add photos to the Shutterfly site

You need to SIGN UP on the dignelson site before you can add photos.

Then go to your normal email program, attach your chosen photos and add the appropriate  album name in the subject line e.g.  ‘Summertime’  and send to  dignelson@sfly.com   Please do not add anything in the body of the email

Phone  E’beth 548-5669 for help with Shutterfly or look on the site for other methods of adding photographs.

Don’t forget the ‘Favourite Photos’ section on the website…..well worth a look there.

www.dignelson.shutterfly.com Add the website to your Favourites/Bookmarks  This will make it much easier to find again.

Back to the meeting………Helen showed us some really great photo albums that she had created using the Harvey Norman website….how many of you have hundreds of pix on your computer and not done anything with them??  Think about what Helen showed us and maybe have a go.

Helen’s instructions…….

Go into the Harvey Norman site, click on the Photo Centre....Then sign in with name password etc, (just follow instructions). Save a short cut to the desk top. Then go into the photo book part and go from there.
The photos do take a while to load in, but you can resize some to make it easier. The ones that you want to use as full or half page photos should not be resized but the rest can. Just be patient and don't  create the book in a hurry. Allow plenty of time. Sort your photos into a file first and do all the editing and cropping, then you don't have to hunt for photos all the time.
The end result is worth the patience

The converting of photos slides to photographs was discussed.  Nola told us about a ‘gadget’ she had bought from Innovations which converted her slides, negatives……to a SD card

The quality of the finished product will depend on what is used to convert your slides, so one needs to think about this.  Barry Doig has seen a number of slide scanners on Trade Me and suggests that folk look there and then Google the brand to see if there are reviews of them.

Liivi spoke about the Federation deal with Noel Leeming…..purchase anything in store at cost plus 12%.  All you need to do is tell them that you are a SNet member.

All in all, it turned out to be an interesting meeting!!

The usual social cuppa followed the meeting with a fair bit of chat going on.

The next meeting will be on Friday 25 March 2pm in the hall.
