REPORT ON DIG MEETING HELD FRIDAY 28 MAY 2010
An excellent turn-out of members on a miserable winters day and we had an enjoyable meeting.
It was good to see a late flurry of FENCES photos to the Shutterfly website. Having a subject like this makes one look more closely at things you generally don’t even think about. We had our usual photo show…..some interesting shots…..check them out on www.dignelson.shutterfly.com
Barry suggests that we try taking some of our shots closer to the target.
Using a Power Point presentation, Barry discussed some of the basic guidelines/ ‘rules’ of composition.
THE RULE OF THIRDS
Simply put, divide the view- finder into thirds, vertically and horizontally .
The four intersecting points are where you want to place subject matter of interest The “S ” Curve, will help you lead the viewer’s eye toward objects you wish to emphasize; also, a pleasing pattern.
‘Lines’ leading the viewers eyes towards a focal point.
‘Framing’ the subject of the photograph e.g using a branch of a tree or something similar, as a ‘frame’
The website that Barry mentioned…..and one well worth looking at is http://digital-photography-school.com
Barry finished by showing us a short audio-visual presentation he has just created on the annual Nelson Mask Parade. Many hours were involved with this really lovely production which was enjoyed by everyone. Some good advice from Barry about taking photographs of children. Always ask permission from the parents of the child.
Following afternoon tea, Helen demonstrated cloning, using the program PhotoFiltre, which is a free download……Google it. Helen used a photograph of Arrow Rock to illustrate the technique. We had Arrow rocks all over the place…..short ones, tall ones, fat ones, skinny ones. After this, some members tried it out for themselves on the computers. Using the Cloning Tool the subject can be replicated as an exact….well…..clone!. With the lasso tool the subject can be copied and then altered in size and shape.
The subject for this month is BRIDGES.
Send them in to the Shutterfly website.
Next meeting Friday 25 June 2pm
