DIG meeting 30th July 2010
Trevor greeted about 30 members.
The photos from the website were shown as a slideshow, and then looked at individually with comments. http://dignelson.shutterfly.com/708
Barry commented that in most cases the photos could be cropped top, bottom and sides. He also reminded us to aim to take care to take good photos all the time and not to become lazy and think we can fix them on the computer. He also stressed the need to use your tripod which makes for a better photo.
If your camera has manual then use it for better exposure with less tweaking afterwards.
Barry then showed us the results of his exercise of taking one photo a day for a month. What a wonderful collection of photos with a wide variety of subjects. Even on wet, dull days he found something to photograph indoors. http://www.flickr.com/photos/barrydoig/
Comments:
- There are photos everywhere if you look for them.
- Whatever camera you have it is only you that can make the picture.
- The best way to learn is to go out and do it.
Trevor showed photos that he had taken from slides with his slide copying adaptor and gave a demonstration of how the adaptor works. He has a photo taken from a slide of harrier hawk chicks photographed on to colour positive film in 1958!

Many of us have boxes of 35mm slides stored away and in danger of going mouldy.
If you are interested in procuring an adaptor, Google your camera model and “slide copying adaptor” – for example:

The subject for August photography is ART. Art is the process or product of deliberately arranging elements in a way to affect the senses or emotions. It encompasses a diverse range of human activities, creations, and modes of expression, including music, literature, film, photography, sculpture, and paintings.

Clockwise from upper left: A self-portrait from Vincent van Gogh, an African Chokwe-statue, detail from the Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli and a Japanese Shisa lion.
The meeting closed with afternoon tea.
