Find out more about SeniorNet Nelson . .
Seniornet members are there to help you right now, but you can read about the early days of the Nelson group
Then again you might like to see some photographs of typical SeniorNet activities
1. Who am I? I have been most impressed with the organisation, function and performance of SeniorNet. The knowledge, ability to impart, friendship and enthusiasm of the tutors I have had experience with is quite remarkable, considering this is an unpaid, voluntary organisation. This question has crossed my mind: Who needs a competitive model to promote efficiency, when we see SeniorNet in operation? (A commendation from E.N.)
2. Who am I?
I got my first computer in 1996, joined SeniorNet in 1997, and have been on the Committee for 11 years. In earlier years I was recording information about who was going to be on a course, and advising tutors of those enrolled. I enjoyed teaching Word Processing and Cardmaking courses, and could always find time to help out in other ways. Now I am a Life Member, and I decided it is time I retired.
3. Who am I?
I had never used a computer until two years ago so I then joined SeniorNet to get some lessons. I love what SeniorNet has to offer. I especially enjoy the photography and craft side and take an active part in the Digital Imagery Group. I like trying out new things and passing that information on to others, so I have become a Tutor. As a new committee member I’m helping to set up our new website, which is very interesting. What a great set of people I have met at SeniorNet, from all walks of life and with the computer in common. Read more
4. Who am I?
I struggled with my PC for nearly four years before I joined SeniorNet 4 years ago. The Introduction course really helped to fill in gaps in my skills and then I took courses in Word Processing, Publisher and Files and Folders. I really like the Digital Imagery Group and all the things we learn at it. Club Day monthly meetings are also enjoyable: the tips and information about sites and how to do things is such a help. Digital photography is my favourite area.

5. Who am I?
I have been a member of SeniorNet(Nelson) since 1996, when I attended an AGM in the Church Hall, opposite the School of Music, in Nile Street. I filled out a form at the meeting, and indicated I would be willing to tutor in some area, and within 15 minutes the then Vice Chairperson - Merv Turner - buttonholed me, and arranged that I meet up with others of the Committee, including Lois Keeble who had just then accepted the role of Secretary!
6. Who am I?
I joined SeniorNet Nelson in 2008 for the Digital Imagery Group. I took a few courses to fill in gaps in my knowledge and slowly took on roles in tutoring and committee. The best project has been working on the web site but it's also very rewarding being a tutor. It's great to see people empowered by the knowledge and fun they can gain from their computer. Read more
7. Who am I?
Moving to Nelson, I joined SeniorNet Nelson in 2010 to find they had prospective members asking about Macs. I became the Mac co-ordinator to introduce Apple Macs to the organisation. I am also helping the stalwart Graeme Valpy continue to maintain and develop the systems in the Learning Centre. Read more
8. Who am I?
A member since 2008, I enjoy the Digital Imagery Group and the creative side of SeniorNet. I have taken a number of classes and workshops which were most enjoyable. I was somehow recruited to Committee last year and I now use my once-dormant secretarial skills. Read more |
